The Purge
The title sequence instantly starts with deep, scary, loud music. This instantly shows the viewer that the film is going to contain frightening aspects. The music changes into a more high pitch, faster choice of non diegetic music, that is still rather creepy. The scene changes to a dark room, with dark lighting and walls. The colour choice represents darkness, and fear as we associate darkness with crime and deviant behaviour. It is unlikely for certain crimes, such as the ones that take place in the film would happen in light settings. In the bedroom like room, there are random things floating around such as a chair and a book, this shows that maybe the setting was once a normal house, however something has happened in order to explain the abnormal fact that furniture is floating around the room.
Shortly after this there is a young girl, with her head down, in a white gown, the white contrasts the darkness so it stands out however the girls hair and body still looks dark, and the fact her heads down creates a sense of confusion to the audience. This fits the conventions of a thriller because there are aspects of both psychological mind games and supernatural events. This is all recorded in one master shot however the camera is moved around fast and unstable around the room, as if it is to imitate somebodies sight. The screen then pauses black, and 'Blumhouse Productions' appears on screen, still with the background of a dark wall. The colour of this title is blue and green, so it stands out against the darkness, the screen is paused for around 8 seconds, which shows this titles is rather important as they want the reader to acknowledge it,

The sound keeps getting deeper at this point, The screen goes blank, with small yellow informative writing to help the reader understand the plot before it begins, it reads 'America. 2022. Unemployment is at 1%. Crime is at an all-time low. Violence barely exists. With one exception....' The facts they are telling the audience are good, unemployment levels are really low which is good however the 'With one exception...' prepares the audience for the fact that there is twist in this plot, and that these figures are not being highlighted for no reason. This is then followed by a strange quote that doesn't particularly make sense at this part of the film. Then music then changes from low pitch, to high pitch music containing bell sounds with a faster beat. The scene switches to several pieces of CCTV footage of what we assume happened on the night of 'The Purge', whilst this is taking place, the names of everyone involved in the making appear;

There is a sound bridge at the end of the title sequence, of a man talking.
